Different colored interior?? **Mystery Solved**

My 85 Ext. cab has blue interior but the plastic around the B-pillars is a light brown. Did it come like this from the factory. Im beginning to worry cuz i can't see the factory puttin diff. colors in the interior and my passenger side seatbelt has a little red tag where it bolts to the floor that says something like replace if visible or something like that

interior colors are not different like that ..
and the seat belt is sewn so the stiches pull out in case of an accident , revieling that tag .. a safty measure to ensure the belt is not defective after extreme use .

as far as i know, basic factory interiors came in grey, brown, red, and two different blues, not including the turbo and sr5 limited optional trims. there are several dealer installed interiors tho, because a lot of the trucks were imported without rear seats to avoid taxes and added later by local trim shops at the dealer, so some are plaid and etc. you apparently have different pieces possibly from a prev. owner.

The plastic toyota used on the interiors is very prone to fading and discoloration. My gray interior turned into a nasty shade of "washed white" after 20 years of sun and heat. I see the sort of discoloration you are talking about from time to time.

Those panels are made of extremely brittle plastic, old ones were probably broken so someone swapped em. Mine were like that too, I just hit them with some black Krylon and called it a day.

i would say your truck originally had blue interior, some of the panels were broken, maybe because of the sun making it brittle or previous owner trying to take them off and braking them, and replaced with brown.

I saw this topic and joined up to throw in my 2cents. I have an '84 SR5 extended cab that looks to be the same color blue as yours (and also the same blue interior) and it had the brown colored trim too! It was very brittle and cracked in several places so a year or so ago I just ripped it all off. There may be a leftover piece of that plastic under the seat somewhere and I'll look tomorrow if you need a picture for color comparison. From my memory it was the same brownish color though.

I managed to find a left-over piece of it behind the seat and snapped a picture. Seems to be about like yours so my guess is that the plastic color just faded over the years.

I recently saw an ad on craigslist for a toyota pickup, I dont remember the exact year but it was an 80's pickup with the same interior but the seats also had some brown on them along with the blue. The ad is no longer posted , i looked for it. I remember thinking how odd it looked.

I got to looking the other day, one cuz i wanted to paint those panels black or some other color than brown and i wanted more speakers. The little dash ones were not cutting it. i started attempting to take the panels off and they started cracking so i stopped. but while i had them pulled off i noticed that my truck already had holes for speakers in the back pillar. Well long story short, with the panels being so brittle i decided to use an old soldering iron to cut out the holes. This is what i found:

So do you think that a PO painted those panels? Like they tired of seeing the blue everyday, so they disassembled the truck's wall, painted that one panel brown (pretty well I might ad) then lost steam and put it back together?

Weird... but weirder things have happened... You've got a truck with some history, that's for sure :-)
