Question Converting truck to 4Runner.

Well, no, not actually. I just wanted you guys to open this.

I bought an XtraCab truck thinking there'd be flip down seats in the storage space... apparently not. And I'd really like to take up to 4 people mudding with me while staying as legal and safe as possible. And I don't wanna have to go buy a 4Runner 'cause I like my truck. SO...

What do you guys think about bolting a bench seat in the bed of my truck? IT sounds risky but here's what I'm thinking:

-Bolt a bench seat to bed floor, WITH 1/4" (or thicker) steel plates/bars UNDERNEATH the bed floor to reinforce the original floor. That way, if I hit a "bump," the seat won't tear out through the floor.

-Wrap foam padding around the roll bar's "kick bars".

-Install two-point lap belts (they DO make these to bolt onto the seat as opposed to the floor).

That way my passengers would be buckled in, the seat would be secure, and they wouldn't crack their heads open on something.

My main concerns:

Does this SOUND safe?

How do you think the law would respond? Could I pretend like I bought the truck that way and didn't know any better?

Has anyone ELSE done this?

Thanks for your time guys. I'm a social butterfly, and my truck-less friends love offroading with me, but it IS a small cab.

My cousin put a seat in the back of his Jeep Commanche. He was always getting pulled over by the cops, but they always said it was ok after they saw the seat belts. It should be generally safe as long as the seatbelts are bolted in good. You could also install a roll bar for added safety and bolt shoulder seat belts to it. That way cops would see that you have seat belts and would not pull you over to check.

I have never seen Brat seats that fold down. They are hard plastic. I have some that I would like to get out of my yard if you are intersted.

Those handles are pretty sweet. I was thinking the seats would be good in a go cart or something, and maybe put a throttle on one of the handles, but steering would be tough.

Here is a picture of them if anyone is interested:
