does anyone know of a 1st gen convertible 4 runner.. So someone cut the cab top off and had a soft top made for the whole bed.. Something like a CJ8, K5 or a TJ unlimited.. I've been pondering this idea for awhile and I'm sure its been done.. I was concerned about the stability of the windshield..

 

they have soft tops for 1st gen runners, can-back makes some.

I wouldn't really go into the effort to cut off the rest of the truck cab part, when you already have the rest of it come off. Now if u had a 2nd gen or 3rd gen and wanted to go convertible then i would put in the effort to chop the whole the whole thing off and go custom.

If you do chop the rest of the top off i would put in a roll cage, you dont wanna flop and die. So that cage could also support your windshield.

 

i agree the simple route is to buy a can-back.. But for over a thousand bucks for a can-back, i could have a full top made locally and have cash left-over.. i like the idea of a full-convertible with soft doors.. This provides being able to quickly taking the doors off, less weight, and taking the top off quickly.. Lots of flexibility when its hot, cold, rain etc.. Wondering if anyone knows of someone who has tried..
