Clutch Cancel Switch?
#1
Two questions here:
84 ext cab 22R 5 spd - sunroof
It is pretty stock but in the spot where this switch should be is a duplicate switch of the dome lamp and it does nothing. It has wiring attached so before I tear the dash apart tracing wires I want to confirm this option is supposed to be there.
Does this truck have the safety switch wiring and sipposed to have this feature.? (unless removed by a PO which I doubt)
85 ext cab 22RE 5 spd originally an automatic
This truck was an auto and I want to add the clutch cancel switch and I have looked for a wiring diagram and/or write-up of someone doing this and just cannot seem to find one.
The 84 I am working on as a dd and the 85 as a trail rig with ammenities so I would like both cab interiors as stock and nice as possible. Bumping the starter to bump the truck can be helpful and just to simply crank without pushing in the clutch if I want, so I want it to work on both trucks.
Thanks.

X2, I don't think the clutch cancel became standard equipment until '86 as well. My '85 had a blank switch cutout where that switch would be in '86, but only had a cover plate over the hole. I can hit the starter in or out of gear, so if you don't have the clutch cancel relay in between the ignition and starter, it is good to go.

I was at the junkyard a few weeks ago and there an stock 84 with a clutch cancel switch. My 85 didn't have one so I grabbed it. I haven't done anything with it or I would be able to help you out.

My 91 PU the switch actually said "clutch cancel" the switch in my runner says "safety cancel" I assume they are the same thing if I am wrong then let me know I just always push the clutch in when I start it.

I'm pretty sure in the 80's models the saftey switch was only in the SR5 package and all 4runners. Trucks non SR5 i don't think had them.... but why do you want a switch anyway? Theres one in my truck but i bypassed everything so that i don't have to do nothing to start it... it will crank over no matter what i'm doing. I don't have to puch in the clutch or nothing to start mine lol
anyway.... since the truck was originaly auto.... thats going to be kinda hard.... i think that switch is linked to the clutch switch on the pedal..... not really messed with it....

Being this was auto first, did they hook up the clutch safety switch? Can you just bypass it and to heck w/ a dashbord switch? I find it annoying on the occasions I use it cuz it stays lit til you engine kill.
I think the real mystery here is wat does the switch do that you have in its place??

Funny story on that actually, I almost ran Wabbit over in his shop when I was in 'Bama.
He left it in gear when he parked it, I didn't know so I fired it up with him standing in front of it adjusting the idle...whoops.
At least he was awake for the next few hours.
