So I'm rebuilding the original carb on my '84 4x4 pickup & I've got a couple questions. The carb I'm rebuilding is a #35270 (from the metal tag on the air horn) & I've got a #35290 as a parts carb. The later came from an '84 2wd.
1) Can I use the choke cover assembly & solenoid assembly/idle shut off from the 35290 on my 35270?
2) While cleaning the air horn I decided it would be a good idea to take the butterfly valves off to better clean the whole thing. Bad idea. I got one screw out but the other broke off during removal. Tried a couple from the parts carb with the same results. Looking more closely, it appears the other end of the screws are some how pressed to increase their diameter making them stay in place. The one I did get out doesn't easily want to go back in. Looks like I'll have to drill out the other one and get replacement screws. Due to the increased diameter of the end of the screw its going to be pretty hard to size the little bugger, anyone know what size I need?

You'll need to drill out the screws from the bottom (opposite end from the head). I found it easier to drill & retap the hole for #6 panhead machine screw. You can purchase new brass #6 screws at a local hardware store. Be sure to use loctite on the the new screws because you don't want them coming loose.

You should be able to use the choke cover and the other solenoid. The only difference between the carbs is the internal metering tubes.

 

Thanks for the info, glad to hear I'm not the first dips@#t to try removing those screws.
In relation to the difference in the metering tubes of these 2 different carbs, is there an advantage to one over the other? Ultimately this truck will have a camper on the back, so power would take precedence over speed.

Sorry for the delay in responding, been packing and getting ready to move to the south pacific.

There shouldn't be much difference at least that you will notice. My 85 22R had the 35290 carb on it.
