Broken Valve Springs

Broken Valve Springs
I bought a new(?) head off ebay.. The head seems fine but I keep breaking valve springs. I broken one about 10 miles ago, then rebuild the motor and took it on its first real run and broke 2 more, each one was on a different cylinder, 1 intake and 2 exhaust.
The vavle spring breaks near the head and has enough weight or something to keep the retaining clips from coming out (I'M lucky i know). The springs I broke yesterday, I had to drive it 30 miles to get home, wasnt sure what was going on except it was running bad!!
Has anyone else experienced this??

Are you using a stock or OEM camshaft? Appears to be valve spring bind. I believe you need to contact whomever you purchased the head from and read them the riot act. If not spring bind, they are brittle and failing (read not to spec). However, if you have shoved some after-market camshaft in the head, you own the problem. While rotating engine by hand, inspect the springs for bind.

Might want to call the machine shop and tell them whats going on. Or talk to ted at engine builder (www.engnbldr.com).
