I have read several write ups on this subject, but they all seem to differ a little bit. I want to upgrade the brakes on my 85 pickup to a later style. I have read use ifs calipers and fj40/60 rotors. My problem is that i read that after 92 the calipers were even larger at least on 4 runners. So large that the pads are larger than the rotors. I read one write up that said to use 4 runner calipers and rotors, but i assume thats an ifs only swap. My question is what are the largest calipers and rotors i can use on my 85 axle without any modification?

 

Do a search for Davez offroad, he sells a complete brake upgrade kit that will work on your truck.

 

oh, and when i say no modification, i have read that on large calipers they have fins that need to be ground a little to clear the wheel. Thats no problem. Im just looking for something to bolt up.

Search and read what you find. If you upgrade to the large piston calipers your going to need to upgrade MC and vacuum assist.
