Brake power booster help?

I have an 82 toy with a small block chevy in it and a power brake booster.I got the truck this way and the brakes just dont seem to be as good as i think they could be.My 87 four runner doesnt take much pressure at all to work.Any ideas on what booster to swap in,what year toyota or what not for better brakes with less pressure.I dont want to dish out cash to get the same as i allready have.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.P.S. The brake system is all up to par so its not a hard pedal from faulty brakes thanks CJ

You got a big cam in your SBC?
if you do its probably robbing vacuum.
gotta' run a vacuum reservior for the power brakes to run properly..

summit or jegs sells them.

Might start with putting a vacuum gauge on it to see if you have good vacuum (around 20" at idle) or if it is too low.

Yeah, great suggestion on the vacuum gauge!
if you get a vacuum reservior, theres a port on the reservior to mount a gauge.

with the added power and weight, u should upgrade your brakes, fj40 rotors with v6 calipers in the front and discs with solid axle calipers in the rear. here is how to do the rear brakes: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=55953.0

A dual Diaphragm brake booster out of a 86-87 turbo truck and T-100's will bolt right in:

The brake booster on 1st gen Trucks is pretty dang small and the brakes suck to begin with and throw bigger tires on there you are stressing a system designs for 225/75/15's. I saw this thread over on Pirate and thought that I would pass it on, relatively cheap and easy upgrade.. Thanks to drsmash for finding a great way to improve some brake systems that are getting old and tired

Steering clears with no mods to the booster. Just remove the old booster and spacer take off a small spacer that has the gaskets on it and put it on the turbo booster thats it!

part # at napa: both 2 and 4 wheel 532460

the newer booster is a dual diaphram so it should improve braking dramatically.
