went to make a run and was checking fluids and noticed clutch was a little low, proceeded to add a little fluid and there was a blackish dark gray substance kind of swirled around in resivoir, i over filled to make it run out adjusted level and went on my way later on pushed clutch felt funny pressed again to the floor it went jumped out to see if fluid was gone, it was still full but almost black double clutched it home, figured needs new master and slave but would like ideas. what would cause the black sut

 

It wouldn`t be a bad idea to replace both and flush the lines.

 

Could be the fluid just got old, it'll turn very dark with time and not flushing it. Or it could be a seal or flex line had started to disintegrate and it was than black rubber residue you saw.

 

What kind of fluid does it take? Is it just simply "clutch fluid"?

A flush is not neccesary and brake fluid does not get "old" It either gets contaminated or dirty. Make sure your reservior is on all the way and make sure its not leaking anywhere. If it was low its prop leaking look at the rubber line down near the trans. Its it saturated? Thats prob the issue. Brake fluid always.

 

in a sense it does get old, well kinda. even if it doesnt get dirty or contaminated by wear and tear. brake fluid absorbs moisture which is in the air around us. moisture will break down the fluid and its best to change it out every 2 years

 

I might have a leak somewhere, since there's some fluid near the top of the trans that's leaking from somewhere. And my clutch pedal was kind of stiff today. I'll have to check that out tomorrow, since it's getting dark out right now.
