85 Timing chain off top sprocket.

Hello everyone, I recently picked up a 1985 pickup with 123k miles on it. Truck is really clean. I bought it figuring the timing chain and guides needed replacing due to it not having any compression. Upon taking off the VC the chain was not on the top sprocket. I went ahead and ordered a new cover just to be safe. So with that being said the cam is not at tdc and I’m not real sure how to get it there unless i just get it torn apart and put it at tdc then take the chain off and rotate the engine until it is at tdc then replace the timing chain. Some insight from someone smarter than me would be greatly appreciated.

If the engine has been turned over with the timing chain out of sync, or completely off the sprocket, it is VERY likely that there are bent valves.

I am going to have the head checked before I reassemble it.
