Timing chain problem!!!!!

i bought a 1987 4runner about 6 months ago wit a 22re. the truck had a blown head gasket and a cracked timing cover....replaced the headgasket and the timing cover and timing chain...about a month after doing the work( about 1000 miles ) i went to the beach and played in the sand a little on the way home timing chain broke so i thought ok i jus didnt give the chain time to break in. replaced it yet again i did discover the harmonic balancer was not tightened properly so i figured that caused the chain to break fixed the truck again drove to work and on the way home the timing chain broke again....idk wat would cause another chain to break since this time everything was put back properly...any ideas?

let me word it better, the cam should spin freely with the chain off, and with all the rockers backed all the way off to where there is no valves being opened. if it doesn't then the cam/cam journals could be junk. though i doubt that you would get two junk chains in a row. i would go with a o.s.k kit this time from here. www.22re.com .. way better quality.

has the motor ever been rebuilt? is the head factory?

the cam could be seizing up/ not spinning freely and putting extra strain the the t-chian.

just a thought. when you put the cam back in the head did you make sure all the caps were in the correct order and facing the rite way?
