i have an 85 runner with an auto tranny... just got the motor finished and took it out for a spin..... now here is what is going on i am stoped at a light and when it turns green i start to take off... but the truck acts like its a little held back and then after a few seconds it makes a "pop" or "clunk" sound then goes fine...... every once and a while it will shake and shift funny.. im going to fluch the fluid and change the filter to see what happens..... anyone else have an idea of what it may be?? truck is lifted pushing 33's on stock gears by the way....

 

First check your fluid levels. Low fluid levels will wreak havoc. Also check to make sure your cooler pipes aren't squished.

 

level is good but fluid is brown and burnt smelling..... going to take it somewhere and get it flushed tomarrow

 

Don't flush it yet. They told us in school that replacing fluid that's brown and burnt (indicating worn soft parts inside) may make things worse.

First take it to a trans shop and ask for an estimate for repairs.
