ok i just boughta 85 4 runner and the 22re has no compression in cylinders 3 and 4 and just wondering wat u guys thought wat was wrong or if anybody has ran into this problem before. and it likes to die at idle or barley idle and has nopower at all and the oil has a rotton egg smell and the engine has 230000 miles alright thanks

 

head gasket. for some reason if these engines are gonna blow a gasket, it's usually between 3 and 4.

 

also ive got deep groves right next to the timeing chain and is there susposed to be two chain tenisioners for the timeing chain cause ive only got one

 

i dont know about how many timing chain guides, but is the timing chain that you see broken at all? the material is plastic, and notorious for being one of the only internals problems for the engine (if so, make sure and find the rest of it). if you are building the block all the way up, search the net for aftermarket steel guides, i think DOA has one: http://www.doaracingengines.com/page13/page13.html then you dont have to worry about it until the next chain at 100000+ more miles.

while ur at it, have them ship a Stage 2 camshaft!
