Hi guys, wondering if anyone has had the problem of the engine running like it is carbureted and the choke is closed. CEL is on and not flashing codes. Took battery cable off, cleared codes and it runs great until you shut it off and restart it and problem is again there. 278000 miles and all else is good or seems to be. Any help? Thanks.

 

Well the first step is to check what code the CEL is indicating. Start there.

Also tell us more about you rig. Whats done to it. How many miles, transmission, gears, tires, etc..

 

Well as before stated, CEL is on but when jumping the check connector there is no flashing, not even OK. I did some AFM adjustments, with the star wheel, and it is again running fine. The truck is stock except for headers and a small corection, there are 282,071 miles. I fear a computer problem is causing the CEL to stay on and not flash codes. Now running good so the next problem is rebuilding the draglink and front axle assembly.

 

While not unheard of to have a ECU malfunction much more likely is a bad connection at the diagnostics or a bad wire between there and the ECU.

 

Well, I cleaned up the 4runner and drove it and the CEL went off then the engine commenced to run rough and quit, so here we go again. Let you all know when I figure it out.
