I went to check the timing on my 85 22r with a weber 32/36 today. When I pointed the timing light down at the timing mark it was there for a second, then it was gone for a bit, then it came back. It was a very erratic pattern, there for a few rotations and then gone for a few. the engine runs smooth, so what's up?

 

Bad connection, bad timing light?

 

Thats the first thing I checked, and it was fine.

 

the light was always steady. the timing mark was there and gone.

 

What kind of timing light? Clamp on plug wire kind?

 

yeah it's the clamp on the plug wire kind

 

I got a new timing light and no more weird timing issues. problem solved.
