84 extra cab rear cabin plastic replacement

Hello everyone, new to the boards...lots of great info here!!! I stumbled upon a door panel reupholstering thread on the forums and began working on mine. I gotta say i really liking this site and am already having fun just working on the doors. Can't wait to finish it, however, after looking in the rear cabin area (above the bench tray) the plastic is badly worn and mostly missing. Has anyone tried replacing their's and possibly the plastic that surrounds the extra cab windows? Looking for any suggestions or ideas. I'm thinking maybe 1/4 mdf and some type of fabric. Thanks in advance...cheers!!

Thanks for the response slacker but just can't justify spending $350 + shipping to US for these two pieces. Do you make anything that goes on the back panel underneath the sliding window? Again, I appreciate the help but was looking more for a home remedy.

A quick easy fix would be to shape a piece of fabric to fit and brush it with a home made fabric stiffener. You can cover the area with tape so it doesn't glue to the metal.

I used to have an 84 xtra cab that had the same problem. Went to the junkyard and found a 2wd xtra cab that had nearly perfect interior trim pieces. Got both for maybe $30. Painted them to match and they were good to go.

Dammmn those look perfect yotadood, exactly what I’m needing..that’s a hell of a find considering they’re 34 years old. Based on all my Vegas experiences, I don’t think I’m that lucky... but than again, that just means I haven’t hit the jackpot yet..already been to the 2 local yards..what’s your selling price lol??

I already installed them in my old truck and the truck is sold now.
I was surprised how intact they were too! If you're located in the desert that's tough. Maybe next time you're out of town you can try to hit a yard, then carry them on the airplane? Haha

No worries dude, appreciate the response tho. I travel for work and those wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I flew home lol. And yup...this desert heat dries everything out. I did get extremely lucky tho as I found this back insert at a yard 2 hours away this past Saturday. Never even seen one online and only cost me $6 bucks!!!! Gonna felt it and possibly replace the cargo pockets with little door map pockets i found out the yard as well.

After a four hour round trip, and some a$$hole stealing my dewalt impact at the yard... I’m still happy with the pick lol

Ours crumbled apart and we ended up removing them completely doesn't look horrible, but will be hitting up @slacker when we get the funds - if not for these interior panels, for something else - love what you guys can do with fiberglass!

Had never thought of looking at 2wd Xtracabs in the boneyards - may need to keep an eye out!

got these off an 87 2wd...some minor cracks but better than nothing. May try to silicone and repaint the small missing pieces. Will post photos when installed

If you can get your hands on some left-over Vulkem 350/351, it rehabs the old plastics remarkably well. Mine were disintegrating with holes around the quarter windows. I used metal mesh over the holes and a generous amount of Vulkem I had left over from a project, they turned out great. I used some electrical boxes to cover old speaker holes, and built myself a shelf too...after driving my rig for nearly 20 years, a shelf at the back of the cab was high on my to-do list. The Vulkem is expensive and nasty to work with...if I hadn't already had it I definitely would have gone the fiberglass route.
