If the plug for the choke and fuel cut solenoid is the same, then it should work. whats wrong with the carb on your truck ?.

My truck actualy runs really good and clean. Its just the idle cut soilenoid doesnt like to open anymore (takes a little tap to get it to release) so its hard to start sometimes. Also my secondary doesnt really work. But anyways, i know someone with a 22r with a rebuilt carb on it and i was gonna get just the solenoid from him but he said he will sell the whole carb for cheap.

If its just a bad fuel cut solenoid, you can buy a new one or find one at the junk yard, that what i did and i havn`t had any problems since.

yea... but a whole second carb for 50 bucks is still a good deal. I got a few questions about some parts missing on the carb on my truck that ARE on the other carb i got. First pic(pic of carb i bought today) is the piece that is missing off the side of the carb on my truck right now. Second pic shows you that its msising and there is a "vaccum" line that when i blow into it it doesnt have any resistance or anything just flow into the carb. It goes into a t then into the module that lets the seconday flap open. Problem is that my secondary doesnt really work on the carb on my truck right now. Once in a while it works but 95% of the time it actualy starts to kill bog out the engine when i put my foot into the secondary while drive(doesnt matter if it under a load uphill or on the flat or even going downhill). couldnt not having that plate have somthing to do with it? The fuel cut solenoid doesnt have anything to do with the secondary does it?

Let me try and be a little more specific, the 83 carb should work on your truck, but might not have all the same vacuum conections or the same electrical conections as your stock 84 carb. with a few changes (the electrical plug and vacuum line changes) it should work. looking at your first picture, that cover is not used on the later carbs (i can`t remember what its called), 2nd picture i can`t tell, the picture is not very clear. as an example, my truck is an 85 and when i got it the previous owner had the wrong carb on it, i found the stock carb in the bed under a bunch of junk and when i put it back on my truck wouldn`t start, so after some checking i found the fuel cut solenoid to be bad. i went to pic n pull and found a solenoid cleaned up the carb and put it back on my truck and it runs perfect. i did go back to pic n pull and find another carb so i would have a spare. so the 83 carb will be different from your 84, carbs on 84 and 85 trucks are exactly the same, carbs on 86 trucks are also the same but they changed the electrical plug.
also make sure that all of your vacuum line are hooked up right.

sorry to be so long winded, just trying to give you as much info as possible.

There is this thing on the side of the carb(to the right of the choke if your looking at it from the front) with a vaccum line going into it and it had an adjustment on it. How do you go about adjusting that thing? could my secondary not working be a weak fuel pump? my AC and AAC seem to be ok.

Ok, I have the instruction sheet that came with my carb rebuild kit, it shows a complete break down of the carb. the parts that your talking about is called the Diaphragm Assembly - Choke Breaker, it is factory set and i don`t recomend that you try adjusted. the diaphragm below it is the choke opener assembly, it is a diaphragm and they can go bad, if the linkage is the same as the one on the 83 carb you just got you might try swapping it onto your carb and see if it makes a difference.
I have my spare carb here in front of me and a break down sheet of the complete carb, if you need more help let me know.

i just decided to run my 84 carb for now untill i save for one from
www.nationalcarburetors.com . THey send you pretty much a brand new aisin carb and offer a lifetime warranty. I actualy talked to them today about a carb on out 76 celica 20r and when i asked about base gaksets for my truck he just said he will send me a couple. If anyone wants a carb off an 83 let me know. It was working order when it was pulled but has sat a while so it might need a kit. Make an offer.
