The EFI computers are not compatible between pre 85 and post 85. The early EFI does not have a knock sensor and has a different TPS. I believe the early EFI was found in 83/84 celicas and 84 2wd pickups. These are the different 22re EFI generations: 83-84, 85-86, 87, 88-89, 90+

The 22RE wasn't available in Toy trucks until the 85 model year, and then only in 4Runners. There is a difference in block height between 84 and older 22R's and 85+ 22R's/22RE's. Heads are not interchangeable for starters. Check LCE's website for more info.
The earlier 22RE's (Celica) were much different as stated before.
