84 22R 4 Runner Purchase

Guys I am going to go look at a 84 22R 4 Runner tomorrow morning. It has about 165k miles on it currently. The radiator and clutch have just been replaced about 2 months ago. The owner is willing to sell it to me for $3500. It looks very clean on outside and inside. I just need to test drive it to confirm its good to go. So, my question is what things should I look for when going over the truck and test driving? I have nevered owned a carburated truck so not sure what to look for at this time.

Any help would be appreciated very much! Thanks for your help in advance!!

Steve

If you want to know how the carb works, the truck needs to be stone cold when you show up. Pressing the gas peddle to the floor once before starting is almost always needed when cold. It sets the cold choke so it will start. Depending on how the motor runs when started cold will tell you a lot about the what shape the carb is in. After idleing 3 to 5 minutes, the carb should kick down to a lower idel. With out anyone touching the gas peddle. Again listen to how the motor sounds at that time.

Giving it gas once warmed up the motor should react to the gas peddle the same as a fuel injected motor or Real close.

That is a good start, I'm sure other will have more.

Thanks!

I will be meeting him at his work at about 11:00 so the truck will have been sitting for a couple hours by then. I dont' think it will be completely cold but hopefully it will do. Thanks for the suggestion.
