4runner canopy mod

hey im thinking about getting dirty with some fiberglass work and moding my 4runners canopy. i kind of have an idea of what i want to do...remove the farthest back two windows but keeping that downward angle down to the bed (kind of like a chevy avalanch). then i was thinking about adding a tool box up against the tail gate and have that be exposed...but im kind of lost on coming up on what to do with the back windshield, i still want the cab to be enclosed....have you or anyone you know done anything like that? some pics would be real cool!

I'm interested to see what you come up with. I like them how they stand, stock, but I have seen some cool looking bob-shell shorten projects. NOT how you're speaking of it...but nonetheless they made it work. lol.

im searching around for ya and i know you got a first gen but you could almost do the same thing here..chop the rear and seal it with a pickups rear slider. heres a link to another thread, scroll down a few posts and there is a few pictures of a second gen runner with a similar mod, the thread is unrelated but the pics give an example.

Bdales... I am with you on this idea!! I am thinking about doing the same thing. But I want the back to be open. My thoughts were to just buy a whole other top and leave my original one in tact... then I could switch back and forth depending on what I wanted on it. I found this video on youtube... at the beginning this guy has a solid top... but if you look later he actually has cut the top like we are talking about, but left it open... check it out.

Right on! Thanks fellas. And I like the idea of having two tops. Gonna try and get my hands on couple. Maybe having it sealed is getting in over my head. Thanks again guys.

i did a google image search for "4runner chopped top" which had several good pictures, one of which led me to the thread above.

Even in L.A., I found an extra top candidate for myself(not to cut, rather, for the purpose of drilling through to install my Con-Ferr rack).... for 50$. It's funny, when I tried to sell mine, I COULDN'T GIVE IT AWAY, ......but eventually, a guy called me, after 3 Months of reposting on CL and gave me 150$ lol. WISH I kept it, now, ya know? lol.

You could use Lexan for that rear thing with some subframe mocked up to keep people out... You wouldn't be able to roll it down, but it would keep the tweekers out the back! lol. I've managed to keep the rust almost completely out of this thing...and I'm not even back east.... so I wouldn't do this unless I could easily undo it when it was time to or I needed it for DD duties! lol. Can't wait to see you doing burn outs with that 'BOSS'! lol.

as for a tool box - there is a local guy here in AZ who removed the guts from the tailgate and made it a tool box - he also has his top chopped:
