22RE to 22R Conversion?
#1
Alright so just yesterday I found out that the motor in my truck is pretty much toast. low compression in two cylinders (one around 70 and one around 40) So right now I'm looking for anouther motor to swap in. Even if it's only untill I rebuild the 22RE myself or something. I was just wondering what would be involved in swapping a 22r in place of my 22RE? I found an 83 pickup I can get for fairly cheap with a spare engine. I'm fairly mechanically inclined just right now don't have much knowledge on the subject

It's less confusing to everyone else.

For the OP:
I wouldn't go carbed unless the truck sees minimal offroad use, on less inclined surfaces. If you can use that block and head, and just swap your exhisting EFI parts on the engine that would probably be the best route. Essentially just doing an EFI swap on a carbed engine, and I'm sure there will be more helpful threads on that. I would help but I'm in the same boat as you for the knowledge aspect! Good luck.

Basically all you have to do is bolt your efi stuff on to the motor and put a block off plate where the fuel pump was for the carb. The block and head are the same. I just put a 22r block and head in my 85 efi 4runner and everything just bolts right up.
