22r swap to 22re

hey everyone

i got a couple questions for you, I recently put a couple rods through my block in my 84 reg cab long box 4x4, it had the 22r in it but around here I can't really seem to find one, I found a couple running 22re motors in vehicles still, one is a 87 auto 4runner with 160xxx km with 50xxxkm on a rebuild and the other is a 89 pick up with 180xxxkm, I'm not sure if it's manual or auto. Both come with the wiring harness and ECU

What are these motors worth?
My main question to you guys, will these directly bolt up to my 84 5spd trans?

thanks for your time

Seeing that you are new to the site and not sure if you know the differences, but an 84 and 85 blocks are different. 84 and older is one style and 85 and newer is another style. If it was me, I would use one of the 85 and newer blocks as they are going to more available. The motor will bolt to your transmission. I cannot remember if the 84 Intake will bolt to the 85 block or not. You could just get an 85 or newer carb Intake if it will not bolt up.

The wiring harness will not do you any good and to convert one to EFI is a HUGE job. You have to replace the entire harness from bumper to bumper and under the dash, run EFI fuel lines, and EFI fuel tank.

Alright so let me see if I got this right, I can use the block, and head from the efi motor unbolt the efi stuff and get a LCE intake that is set up for a Weber carb for a 85-91 22re motor, I think the ports are different between the pre 85 and 85 and after. One is square and the other is oval I believe I read somewhere

You can use up a 94 block. Around 92 was the last carb motor if you want to use a factory intake. I have not used an LCE intake but I am sure it will work for you.

On a 85 or newer block you can convert a motor from EFI to carb and vise versa. I one time did try to install an 85 intake on an 84 block to see if you could use an 84 motor. I had read that you could make a 84 motor EFI. With enough machine work you might could but it would not be worth the cost. An 84 motor does not have a mount for the EFI fuel filter. Not a big deal on that part but the costly thing would of been getting all of the bolt holes machined into the head for the Intake manifold to mount up. Seems like there was something else that would not make it cost effective to use an 84 block with an 85 Intake. Even the Timing chain covers are different in height. As long as you stay all 85 and newer you will be ok. When you order your parts from LCE or anybody else, just make sure they are aware of the year of the parts. There are a handful of things that will interchange such as oil pan or valve cover but the 22 motor really should be considered two completely different motors.

Here is a link https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51960488 of some of the differences.
