1985 stock door chime?

I have an 85 pickup SR5 Xtra cab. Does anybody know if it had a door chime when you opened the doors? My owners manual says that it did, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Yes, they did have a door chime, and its very anoying, so the first chance i got i disabled the one on my 4Runner. Thats probably why yours isn`t working, the person that owned the truck before you probably disabled it.

On my 85 i disconnected it on the left side behind the plastic thing that can come off by the fuses. u can do it anywhere but there was a plug coming from the switch to the box so i just un plugged it. look there and see if somone else did the same.

be careful though , when i just unplugged the connector from it in the driverside kick panel it would drain my battery, till i plugged it back in.

When i disabled the buzzer on my 86 4Runner i pulled the box out that the buzzer is in and just disabled the buzzer it self, all the buzzer is, is a piece of metal that vibrates against a metal coil, i just bent the piece that vibrates away from the other piece and then plugged the box back in and put it into place under the dash, so its still conected but no noise.

Correct me if I'm wrong: but just "throwing the box out" disables door-controlled cab lighting... does it not? Some might not consider this a big deal... but since my door switch went sour I've left the dome on over and over by manually flippin' the dang switch to look for my crap (cigarettes).

Why do people hate these buzzers so much? I am a idiot, and will leave my lights on if that buzzer doesn't yell at me. My pickup was buzzerless and I went to start it half a doezen times, only to find I left my lights on and now had a dead battery.

The buzzer (light reminder relay) is also an early form of an integration relay. The RH door switch still works with this unplugged, but all you have to do to keep your dome light and your LH door switch working is to jumper 2 wires on the plug once the buzzer is removed. Black/White and Red on an 86 will do the trick. With this unplugged, your ignition key cylinder light will not work either.

yes it should buzz when you open the door or leave on your headlights, heck the darn thing buzzes all the time, the p/o cut his switch out, so i took the pass. side switch on ny drivers side and i only had it plugged in about 5 seconds and i unplugged it. it buzzes just like it does when you turn the key on. an easy way to check if your is plugged in or not, is to open the door and see if the cab light comes on

I can' stand the thing. It makes me take my key out and forget it in the truck!! Best thing to do is go in the "buzzer box" bend the buzzer hammer away from the copper coil (pre 87?). Plug the box back in and walla no noise. All dome lights work etc..

After reading this I plugged mine in...said WHOA... and unplugged it. The previous owner still has the box plugged in but one green wire is pulled from the harness which appears to disable just the chime and now that I checked dome light only works when manually switched.

Put the wire back in place, and just disable the buzzer inside the box, its very easy to do and everything will still work, but with no noise.
