1984 Possible Purchase
Hi this is my first post and recently my marine diesel teacher is allowing me to bring in a diesel engine of my choice to rebuild in class this semester.
Soo I found a clean apparently no rust 1984 diesel Toyota pickup with the long bed for little to nothing. I know nothing about these trucks except that they are THE truck to have and that Marty Mcfly himself owned one. http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/5786350334.html Here is the link I am going to give the guy a call tomorrow and ask him more about it, ill keep you guys updated. Is there anything I should know about this truck like common problems or anything of that matter? I will primarily be using this truck as a daily commuter/project truck and also where is the best place to get parts for such an old Toyota.
I'm glad to be a member of yotatech and appreciate all the knowledge everyone here has to offer, Thanks

That looks like a very clean survivor.
Those early Toyota diesels are not exactly common in the US.
I don't know much about their specs; is it equipped with turbo??
Too bad it's not a 4x4.

I guess I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

pretty sure there were never any US spec Turbo diesels.
NA toyota diesels are sorta gutless
A company I worked in the 80's had a couple, they ran forever, got great mileage but be sure to give yourself time when pulling out so you can get up to speed

That looks like a great truck. A friend had a 2WD 22R (gas) and it was like riding in a sports car compared to my '88 4Runner. I hope you do a build thread because Toyota diesels are not common. You probably know the big thing to look out for is frame rust but I would be surprised if you found it on that truck.
