I know I will get heat for this but, I want to put an automatic trans in my 84 4Runner so its easier for my wife to drive our kids in. They love it and she would like to drive it also. It has a 22r motor and I was wondering if a mid 80's celica/corolla trans would bolt up. Thanks for the help, and I know...I know.

Swapping in an auto is sometimes pretty involved I would find an AW4 from a jeep, get the adapter to a toy t-case, and get the bellhousing and torque converter/flex plate/spacer, from a a340 from a 84 and up Toyota 22r-re automatic truck.. Then you will also need the throttle pressure cable from the trans to carb. assuming your 84 runner has the original 22r. A a340 is a direct swap, but you will want to keep the Toyota t-case, or swap in a d300, so the AW4 is needed.

Thanks for the info. So an A340 is a direct swap if found. I would like to keep mostly toyota parts if its possible.
