1984 33" km2's fit/lift/driveshaft/gearing ?

i have an ext. cab '84 and i want to put 33"km2's. i know i am going to need a lift. my question is can i fit these tires w/out extending the driveshafts? the rear has the two piece and should i replace it with a long straight? and what gearing would be best, i will be daily driving as well as wheeling. how much lift can i get safely w/out getting new shafts? thank you for your time. also i live maui so i never drive over 50-60mph.

Preface: I am not trying to be a dick about this but....

There is a wealth of information available by using the search feature. I was able to rebuild everything on my truck, excluding engine/trans, by only using the the info already available and asking a few very specific questions, to which, I got very specific answers. Do your research and then ask something very specific. I know you ddin't search because there is a thread all about what tires fit without a lift. There is also a wealth of info about gearing. The only reason I don't post much is because I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been covered a million times, though I do need to do some very serious updating on my build.

Sorry to come down on you, and it is not personal, but the very experienced people on here should not have to be bothered rehashing info that they have talked about so many times.

As Zack stated, there is lots of info here to answer your questions. But, I will give you some recommendations cause everyone has to start somewhere....

First off, familiarize yourself with your vehicle. You have a leaf spring suspension... If you have concerns about lifting your vehicle to clear tires then lift it properly,ie; proper leaf springs. Don't mess around with coil springs over leafs.
Second, your driveshaft length will come into play when you achieve full droop during suspension articulation. So to answer your question of whether your tires will fit without extending your driveshaft length then the answer is yes.. with a moderate lift you van fit 33's. You will experience clearance issues in the wheel wells, mainly at the pinch welds in the cab.

I run 33's ( BFG All Terrain ) on one of my rigs with stock driveshafts with no problems. But, it does not do hardcore articulation.

Search "square driveshafts" and "leaf spring lifts". Read up !!! Then come back and discuss your build.

We'll be waiting....

short answer, d-shafts are not your concern, clearance is.

use google to search for things like 33s on 84 toyota. google provides results that are much easier to read than YT's search function. and google ALWAYS prompts YT in the top 3, if not the first result, because YT is simply awesome.

it's hard to comb through the info here, but there's so much of it here we couldn't give it to you in a quick response. search, open a bunch of links, and start scanning through. you'll find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet, like where to beat on the inner wheel housing, whether or not to add some body lift in addition to leaf spring lift, steering shaft extension, brake line extension, and of course, gearing.

good luck!

Well there is a lil bit of a quick response, if it applies to you. A 33x10.5r15 KM2 can fit with no lift. I've got 'em on my '83 with the stock sagged out front springs and they don't rub except in the VERY extreme flexing with the torque rod removed, no sway bars, and slightly longer shocks that allow all the corners to droop more making the opposite corner compress more. Now the problem you may have is if you intend to drive it in sandy loose stuff, you'll need 33x12.5's to float a lil better. In that case, just something like the Old Man Emu lift would work and it's only 2" of lift, nothing crazy required to make the lift workable.

where? between the bumper and leafs?
i think you are thinking of the Zuk mod that puts a coil between the frame and the spring.

4.88's for 33's. 5.29's for 35-37's

cheap lift is rears up front and 63" chevy's out back...
if you do a cheap ebay lift kit I hope you know a good chiropractor

hey OC, don't you have to cut and reweld the perches to use the Chevy's because they're longer than stock?
