Looking at a 82 p/up on ebay has 35s on it now Seller says it wont roll on solid ground in four wheel drive unless it loses traction do to previous owner changing only rear gears and used to run 33s on front and 35s on rear. Can that really be the only problem

Sounds like mismatched gears but it could be other things too. Do the wheels turn at all or are they locked?

Well, it could be...if he unlocks the hubs there shouldn't be any problems! Seriously, I'd look some where else. Who knows what other sillyness is involved with this truck!

I suppose if everything else is in order, then only having to regear ONE diff is cheaper...

Right, and that makes perfect sense!!! Why regear a 7.5" diff that you can't reuse on a SAC?

Then again, why would you run 35's on the rear and 33's on the front?

If you check the truck over real close I'd say it might not be bad, but usually if the PO did mickey mouse work on one part of truck, they did it other places too. If you know your stuff about what to look for, and feel good about it after really looking it over & driving it, then it should be alright. It definitely raises some red flags, is all.

1982 Truck on Ebay

that truck has been relisted at least once. Cosmetically the truck doesn't look bad.
Mismatched gears would definitely account for the issue he stated. The reason to run 35's in the rear and re-gear and run 33's up front with 'stock' gear, who knows. If you buy it make sure you pull the rear third and count the teeth before you buy a 4.88 gear set/third for upfront. That thing might have 5.29's or who knows what gears in the rear.
