Wiring Question

I have an 83 Shortbox SR5 4x4. I am in the process of wiring up a new fuse box to it from another 83. Everything is colored coated and fairly simple to wire up but there are 2 big black wires with yellow stripes are these just grounds? can they be switched? There are also 3 big white wires can these also be crossed up. I really dont want to pull my wiring harness apart and trace the wires. Thanks in advance

The big white wires are ground wires. I am not sure on the black with yellow. Sorry this wasnt before the sun went down.

I'll try to remember to look at my 83 FSM tonight. Sometimes the colors are different...even between the same year, but hopefully we can figure it out.

You should start your own thread since this kind of hijacks crazyeyes. But it's usually the contacts right under the horn buttons that wear out. Search, I know it's been covered on one of these Toyota sites...but I don't feel like searching for you

If I am looking at the schematic correctly it looks like there is a black with yellow strip wire going to the light switch. If this is the one your talking about it looks like they just tie it in with the ENG and Wiper fuses on the fuse panel. Maybe 83 can confirm this.

Yea thats what they are hooked to on the fuse box, just wasnt sure which one was which coming from the harness. Or if it would hurt if I mixed them up by accident. I have no power to the truck so I cant really test them, and the dash it out at the moment, So I wanted to wire this up before I put the dash in. Not a whole lot of room to work with as it is. After I get this wired up I am putting the dash in and dropping my motor in this weekend. Thanks for all your help guys

Forgot to bring my FSM in this morning...I'll grab it on my lunch break. Sorry usually when I leave work I do my best to not think about anything that happened there.

Ok....yes whites are definitely grounds so they shouldn't matter (as far as where...as long as they ground). Any black yellow that I see in the wiring diagram goes to the 15amp engine fuse, so as long as they go to that, I think you're good. Looks like it's emissions, fuel cut solenoid, and maybe some ignition stuff, but either way, the only b-y wires I see going to a fuse, go to the 15amp engine fuse.

Let me know if you need more info.
