why 20r on 22r

why 20r on 22r

ive been doing a lot of looking around on the web at replacing head gaskets on 22r just in case my hg is toast and i keep running across putting 20r heads on 22r motor, why?

smaller head = higher compression which means more power. i think it might boost your fuel economy a little but not sure

Two main reasons why people do it. The first reason is that the intake passageway on the 20R head is a straight shot to the valve, the 22R is curved. The second reason is what the other member stated, small combustion chamber which increased compression ratio. Many 2WD guys use this head for side-draft carb applications.
