so i found a complete rearend off a 93 pickup with a welded 3rd for 50 bucks... the only problem is, is that one of the wheel studs has been snapped off... how hard are those to replace? thanks.

 

Sears did mine for like $6. Might check with your local place first. I imagine it could be much more than that.

 

Was that a front stud or rear axle stud? .. big difference...

even still, thats a damned good deal for $6!

... basically for a rear wheel stud, if your down one.. id just leave it. You can safely run on 5... but to replace a rear wheel stud, unless your super creative you can replace it..but without pulling the axle, bearing and backing plate it will be a pain (like i said unless you're creative).

pulling the bearing is a piece of cake if you have a press/jig.. otherwise it's 40 bucks at a shop.

way back when i first replaced a set of bearings, i had the shop put in my new studs (free) plus cost of bearing replacement (new bearings/seals). per axle.

It's really just the backing plate that gets in the way but maybe you could get creative with a C-clamp to get the new studs in. I suppose if the stud is broken off you'd have enough room to get it out...

I have never understood how you break a stud in the first place, WTF?

backing plate gone (requires either cutting it off or removing the axle bearings) its piece of cake, takes seconds.

I don't remember and I could be wrong. But I agree about leaving it. I still have one missing on the driver's rear on both my 4Runner and pickup.

 

i missing one on the right rear. i should probably replace it, and i would have allready if it was a 5 or a 4 lug, but its not so im not super worried

 

I cross threaded one on my old runner and it only cost me about 40 or so to get it replaced.

 

40 or so.. i bet they pulled the bearing...


seriously theres like a half inch between the top of the stud and the backing plate.. It's not as easy as pounding out the old stud and pounding in a new one...

which is exactly what they do once the axle is out and backing plate is off heh

when i did my rear disc conver... I replaced all the studs in my vice =P

 

Well being late I didn't really have my thinking cap on last night and forgot to mention that I used my buddies shop discount so it would have been more but I did get a deal.

 

How did this work out?

I have a broken stud on my front disk, its damn close to the rotor and I want to replace it (along with all the others once I'm in there)
