Used engine questions

I just bought a running engine out of a 83 celica with 170,000 miles. What all should I do before droping it in my pickup? I am going to put new main bearing, rod bearings, thrust washers, timing chain, gaskets. The main thing I want to ask is about honing the cylinders, I never have honed any thing before. Should I be good or go ahead and hone it also? Thanks in advance.

Have you by chance pulled the head to see what the cylinders actually look like visually? If the engine is or was running when you got it, and doesn't knock, seem tired or smoke, id swap some seals and see what it'd do. I'm guessing you want to avoid rebuilding?

The walls are shiney and I'm looking to avoid rebuilding it. I just want to freshen it up where I can drive my truck again. I just lost my job so I don't have deep pockets any more. I think I'm just gonna get new seals, bearings, and rings. I want to hone the cylinders but thats something I've never done. Any advice? I can post pics if you want to look at what I got...

I'll do almost anything to an old engine, but I walk the fine line between what I know I can do right, and what I'll sling $ to a machine shop for. Personally, I'd probably look into the head more than the cylinders if they're not scarred up. Throw in some pics, lets see what you got ahold of. How far out of Statesboro, if you need some spare parts I can see what I can dig up next time I'm down in Warner Robins with the family.

I got a brand new head and I bought the engine because I needed a good block because mine got ate up by the crankshaft when the thrust washers were lost. I bought the engine and it came with the block with rods and pistons, crank, head, a new timing cover, valve cover, intake and maybe some other stuff. Give me a few minutes and I can get pics up.

I would have bought a short block from sunwest in medical lake wash. Or elsewhere
