I have a motorhome (1982) with the 22R. I am putting a 5 speed in it, which is a W50, and I also have the Toyota full floating 1 ton rearend in it. I cannot find this info anywhere... What type and weight of oil do I put into the W50 5 speed, and what type and weight oil do I put into the rearend?

 

75w-90 or 80w-90 in both will be fine.

 

Some people like the Redline synthetic in the manual trans. MT-90 75W90 GL-4

 

For as often as you change manual tranny and diff fluids, synthetic for sure after break in.

Can anyone tell me the capacities in the trans and rear end? It's a full floater rear end, but since the outer hubs are grease lubricated, is it the same as a regular semi full floating rear end?

What do you have? Dolphin? I have a Chinook. You're lucky if it's an 82 and there's a full floater dually. Aparently they didn't come with this stock, and there were major axle failures. Hopefully my Chinook is light enough that my axle is ok.

 

Yes, I have a Dolphin 20 footer. I love it! Actually, I had the full floater laying around from when I was going to convert my s10 to a flatbed. It still needs some work but it should be okay.

If I was you I'd change my different oil frequently and always check for shavings.

 

Nice! That's a great size. I love the little Chinook, but it's not exactly roomy. Very manageable around town and on the road, though.

Yeah, apparently it was the actual axle shafts that were the weak spot. Only a single bearing, so not full-floating, so they were weak to begin with. Then some people, thinking they were smart, made those axles into duallys, and for reasons that I don't quite know the physics of, this actually made them even weaker than before. So only the true one-ton duallys are any good.

I'll keep the Chinook as light as possible, and make sure the bearings are good, definitely.

The toyota motorhome forum has a lot of knowledge. Most of them aren't quite as techy as people here, but there are a few, and they all have very motorhome-specific knowledge, so that's a good thing.
