Trouble in bed.

Ok, I know that I'm not the only one with rust in our ever-aging, single walled beds from these 1st gen Yotas.
I stopped by a repair shop today and he was scared to even give an estimate because of what he might NOT see.
I would think that EVEN IF I could find a bed to fit, it'd be maybe in worse shape than mine.
He said that some trucks have just had a bed MADE to that would retro fit.
Anyway around, it sounds like an expensive adventure.
I have several areas that are along that middle seam where the bed top and bottom join. mostly on the drivers side.
What and how are you guys handling these troubles in your bed?

I've heard it said that it is good to admit you have this issue and that it is the first step toward getting it fixed UP. Age obviously has a . . . big part . . . to play here.
There are several ways to go here. Fix yours, but like you mentioned some guys would not want to touch yours.
Find another one - maybe a newer one - maybe you'll find a little blue one.

Out west where I am we don't have that problem - our beds remain strong and hard. And we tend to flog them pretty hard.
I would imagine the cost to transport a bed from here would cost more than the bed itself. But maybe someone here could lend a hand.

I called Jims in Colorado. If I can find one out there, I can finnigle some way to get it here. Heck, I may make a road trip for it one week. lol. Always a good story in those things.
Or my sister owns a trucking company that go out west. Possibilities of a hook up there.
Gotta be a fix for these ageing troubles in our beds.
I lol'd at 'lend a hand'. fyi.

Consider fixing the rust in the bed a temporary fix....it will be back. Give Corey a call at http://www.toyotafiberglass.com and secure yourself a fibreglass bed. You will never worry about a rusted bed again. This is what I did for mine...it will outlast me now!

There's been a bed for an '86 (IIRC) sitting at a nearby Pick-a-Part place for many months - was still there about a month ago.
Or do you need the right year.

Red face

Make a Flatbed and be done.

Those mid eighties ones were made in the USA

In my part of the world the only good ones I saw lived inside only went out on Dry Sunny days

I'm with Medicmoose on this. Just get a fiberglass bed & tailgate and be done with it.

BTW- lots & lots of Colorado pickups have very rusty beds. Mag chloride & salt are still used on the roads out here, especially in the mountains. It would be a crap shoot to buy one from here unless you can look it over first.
