My truck shifts fine, but it wont go into 5th gear. It's like it wants to go in but then it stops. BTW its a 82 4x4 with a newer trans swapped in, I believe a G52. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

 

Its actually a 4 Speed?

Will it go in with the engine off? Stopped (with the clutch in, of course)? If it won't go in at all, it very well may be a 4-speed, maybe post some pics of it so we can ID, if it won't go in only while moving fast, its more than likely an internal trans problem.

Did you try the crawler trans shifter bushing. Some times when the bushing goes bad at first its only one or two gears that give you trouble.

 

Okay I edited my first post, I went out and tooked at the trans and it is a foward shift which I believe is the G52. I am pretty sure that it's a 5 speed because you can feel it want go in. When the engine is on and I tried putting it in it felt like it was about to grind.

But hell it might be the G54 4-speed, is there anyway to tell the difference from the outside?
