Unhappy tranny swap info?

hey, i have an 80 pickup with a wasted 4 speed, the things locked up solid, im lookin to put in a 5 speed but dont know exactly what one's will work or not and what all needs to be changed if any as far as crossmember, transfer case.....? i need to get this thing goin as soon as possible so any help is great.

easiest swap is a 5 speed from an '81-83 truck. it'll bolt up in the stock location, the only modifications necessary is that you'll need to enlarge the hole in the floor for the tranny shifter(it pops up dead center in the tunnel instead of on the right like the L43 you have), then clearance the splines on your transfer case('79-80 had a raised spline on the inner part of the input shaft, you need to grind these flush to the shaft for it to slip into the later tranny).

when you find one of these, grab the slave cylinder, clutch fork and boot, and the throwout bearing hub. i'd recommend buying a new clutch kit at the same time for the year of tranny that you are installing, it'll be different than the one you currently have.
