Yeah there are some good passes along the way. I'm not sure what I'd have to deal with after Utah. Never been through Arizona. The worst passes are right out of Helena on I-15, pretty much 20 miles out of town, then Monida Pass between the Montana/Idaho border. After that I'm good all the way through Utah. No trailer brake, I checked.

If you notice my other thread I just started...this trip is looking less & less likely. If I'm lucky, they'll rent me a u-haul! I checked on prices though, and damn, it's no wonder they want me to take stuff down. My gas & lodging costs are nothing compared to what it looks like a uhaul would cost.

I'm hoping they're looking into that. I think they were looking at a leased truck but with liability of breaking down, etc, it was really expensive. It's looking more & more like a bad idea for my truck anyways. Even if, in great shape, it could pull the trailer, it's still pushing it's limits. And I'm just not sure that it's totally there yet, as far as ironing out all the issues.

Yeah, I'm going to talk to my freind today. I need to figure out if I've got a little headgasket leak anyways...
Either way, I just finally got this truck up & running less than a year ago, still ironing out issues, and if I were to break down 1000 miles away from here...I just really don't have the funds to do anything about it. My love affair with this truck is just way too new to be leaving it on the side of the road in Utah or Arizona and hopping on a bus back home.

uhauls are expensive! I moved with a 17 footer and car trailer last year across country, and with gas it was 2500 total. truck trailer and gas! 2100 miles.

I would get a rental it seems the most cost effective and you can still tow the trailer. if you get something with a v6 you can still save some gas as well, probably even cheaper than driving you truck.

Yeah they just aren't going to pay that much (rental or uhaul). It's either ship it all, and anything to big and awkward shaped can't go, or have a friend/volunteer willing to drive drive those big things down. If my truck checks out and everything's ok, it looks like we may just load it up and skip the trailer. That makes me feel way better.

Yeah I looked at uhauls just for an idea and it would be about 2 grand to get down there and back. They'll only end up paying me a couple hundred for the same trip in my truck.

sounds like you've already made up your mind, but i'd say that trailer is too big for your truck. maybe empty, but not loaded up. i wouldn't hesitate to pull that kind of load with my half ton chevy, but not with my toyota unless its only across town.

I appreciate the advice. If you read my last post a little closer though, you'll see that we're not bringing the trailer. After going out & looking at it we both decided it's a bit big for my truck, especially with no trailer brake. So we're just going to load up my truck and leave the trailer at home. That pretty much takes all the stress away for me. Will be much more fun that way!

I will! Need to get a new digital camera before then, I guess.

Thanks a lot. Depending on who, if anyone, rides down with me, I'll spend a night with friends in Salt Lake, then camp a couple nights in Southern Utah and Arizona out in the desert on my way down. I love it down there.
