Tach Not Working
#3
check the harness in the engine compartment for rubbing. Mine wore through the insulation and was grounding the tach wire. After replacing the tach itself I found the trouble spot. I threw some tape on it and it works again. good luck

There is green connector with a black cap on it near the igniter. Remove the cap from the plug and connect a test tach to the plug. Start you engine to see if the test tach gets a reading. If you have no reading it is the ignitor unit that is the problem. If you get a reading it is a problem in the wiring harness or the Tach unit. Run a wire from the test plug connection directly to the Tach unit input terminal on the instrument panel. If the Tach works you have a grounded or broken wire. If the Tach does not work you have a bad Tach unit. Fine a replacment Tach or a speedometer shop that knows how to fix Toyota Tach units.
