???stock fuel pump or electric fuel pump???

I have a 1980 Toyota. I have replaced every thing!!! Well not the fuel pump. When I started it today for the first time in 4 years. It ran for a while then died. I think the fuel pump is out. I can prime the carb and it will run for a short time, but the filter is not getting fuel in it. At first the truck ran fine. I was wondering what would be better a stock fuel pump or electric fuel pump. Like I say every thing is new all the way down to the starter. Also if I do go with the electric fuel pump how do I get away from the return fuel line? Or do I even need it? The fuel pump I am looking at is 4-7psi. I think that is about the right psi. What do ya think? Too much fuel? Thanks Michael

I dont like fuel pumps, but that's just me. I prefer the old fashioned mechanical pumps. I also think you should double check everything and make sure all your hose clamps are tight. One loose clamp can cause the pump to not pull enough to keep it running. Also make sure that you have your mechanical pump hoses set up correctly.

I checked all the connections. It ran fine for about 2 hours then just quit. I put almost 3/4 of a tank of gas in it. I bought a electric pump I am going to try tonight. wish me luck. Thanks Michael

Here is the latest new on the electric fuel pump. It didn't work! I went to the store and bought it and got it out of the package and the D^%$ thing was bad for the get go. So I found a mechanical pump in the shop and placed it on my yota. Yes it worked so I am staying with that. Scooper you were right after I put the pump on I found in my shop I had to use hose clamps to keep a seal on the lines. Every time I turned the truck off for a period of time all the fuel bled back down to the tank and would not start. Thanks for the information and help. Michael
