Shifter knob throttle

I'm curious if anybody has done this, I know it's not practical or maybe even safe but it's something different. This was done on a 89 4Runner, and I didn't do this, it was on the Internet.

A guy in high school had one on his Samurai, he thought it was the coolest thing ever. Not sure if they are legal for road use, like steering knobs

Yeah, it's kinda silly but something different, it'd be a pain for crawling because you have to hang your head out to see where your going

I'm sure it would be bad for the tranny. Resting your hand on the stick can wear it out.

Now that I think about it more that would make sense, better brake and clutch control

Sorry, but doing things to be different even though they are not practical or safe, is, well, I don't understand, but who am I to judge.

The whole point of the throttle control is so you can control the clutch and brakes easier when rock crawling, which I don't think is needed if you have good foot control and heel-too tehcniques. Around here I haven't seen a single trail rig equiped with one and our terrain is very rocky, a friend of mine tried it when building his buggy and hated it. I think you should try it to see how you like it, but don't modify parts you would need to put everything back to stock in case you don't like it.

Yes leaving your hand on the shifter can wear out a transmission faster by always aplying pressure, even more noticable with a short throw shifter.

Wow then Road Rangers must be great transmissions well over a million miles and a good 750,000 miles with my hand resting on the shifter.

Troof.

Also, I use MY handthrottle for winching to juuuuuuuust bump the RPM's up for power. Also, sometimes when I get a cramp/itch and there's NO ONE else on the road and the road is straight and not a deer/cow/horse/hitchhikers around I'll use it for momentary cruise control.....
