I'm wanting to remove all my emissions on the 82, but I'm not sure what all can be removed. I've searched but have not found any good information. I have most of the vacuum lines removed and I cave bypassed the charcol canister. What can I remove to free up some space. I'm not worried about emissions being that this is my weekend hunting and fishing truck. Thanks in advance.

 

Seems like the common answer to this question is: you can remove everything except for the distributer vacuum advance. Especially if you go with a Weber, everything else can be removed. Not sure how much you can remove on a stock carb and still have it function well, but I think the same goes for stock as Weber, although the Weber is at least meant to run on just the basics.

 

i have a weber 34 when I put the head back on I'm gonna clean up the engine and remove what ever I can.

 

From my experience over several old 80s cars nearly everything can be removed. Some things do have a function beyond just emissions though remember.

My 1980 has the stock carb and only the anti-backfire valve and the vacuum advance hooked up. The idle cut solenoid can sometimes be removed as well although mine has that still too (in 1980 it wasn't an emissions device but simply an "anti-dieseling" solenoid). Even the AAP diaphragm has been removed from mine and pluged up (carefully in case I have to drill it back out) with some JB weld.

Removal of EGR can occasionally present the problem of knocking but I've only seen this happen once on a ford 5.0 that didn't take well to its EGR being disabled...
