I've seen systems for late model full size rigs, but not for older toyotas.

If you're wanting a stinger, you will need a different bumper most likely for it to be sturdy, so you might as well buy or build a new bumper and put the winch in it.

Alright thanks. Yeah my second option was to build a bumper sorta like trail gears front bumper but since I don't have a tube bender I would have to cut and weld to make the turns but just buy a stinger. Does this sound like a good idea?

Are you going to roll your rig??
If not, then you don't need a stinger..

The only reason for a stinger is to keep the front clip from getting crushed in the event of a rollover

They also work great to brace against tree trunks while winching someone up a mountain

seen a lot of cool plate bumpers built off of a trail gear winch plate including mine. No need for a tube bender.

Yeah want something I will eventually put a winch in. I really like tube bumpers because they don't weigh as much and they just look awesome but I really do want a stinger if its a plate or tube bumper because since my truck isn't very tall it'll help push my truck up on rocks and over things.
Please keep links and pics come on some cool tube and lighter duty plate bumpers. Thanks

If i may i'd like to give you a little advice concerning bumpers and choices. I have run both tube and plate style bumpers. Honestly it comes down to what you like. The weight of the two is a non factor as my plate style bumper weighs less than my old tube style did. There's part of me that agrees with you that the stinger looks cool but to be honest if you're using it to "ramp" up on stuff because your truck sits too low then you will not have a cool looking stinger for very long. You'll just have a busted front end unless you reinforce it. Just a thought but i highly doubt you'll be running up the nose of your rig via the stinger on purpose to overcome an obstacle. I'll provide a couple pics for ya as well to get and idea of a couple bumpers that i have run.
here's my old rig with a double tube bumper from allpro.

here's my current 1984 rig with a plate bumper fabbed from a trailgear winch mount.

These two are not the same body style as your truck so i found a link you'll like that deals with your 83 and it's requirements with fitment and body style. here's a good link that helped me when building a new bumper. i wanted my 84 to have a very close very tight to the body winch bumper that gave me a good approach angle. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...nt+bumper+pics
a better approach angle will get you further down the trail and past the tougher obsticles than a stinger. Just my opinion hope it helps but if you are stuck on getting a stinger you should also consider the other things like strength and approach angle. good luck happy reading ( i read the pirate4x4 thread over and over while deciding on how to build my bumper)
