Rebuild 20R or Install 22R

Ive got two 20R's one runs but is warn out (thinking there is around 410,000 miles on it) The other caught on fire (bought the truck thinking it was a 83 with a 22r but its a 20r Cali model). Is it worth it to rebuild the Engine? or Just sell both engines and install a 22R (rebuilt)???

My main use for this rig is (1mile ride to work) and Weekend trailing (medium to heavy use).

Also is it normal for the top speed of a 80' pickup 4wd to be 55mph with 30x9.50's??? With 33's it was topping out at 55 as well.

I would find out how much it will cost to overhaul one of the 20R's then see if you can find a 22R for a comparable price. Either will be fine for a 1 mile ride and moderate off roading. A 22R would be better but may not be cost effective for your application if you plan to do the overhaul work yourself.

As for the 55mph top speed, if you have the 4 speed transmission in an 80 4x4 chances are you have the 4.375 gear set which is one of the highest gears put in a first gen truck + no overdrive + small 30" tires so I could see why you would not go over 55mph. Add that the motor is worn out and needs an overhaul which wont help your top speed either. (This is all granted you have the 4 speed trans and not the 5 speed)
