putting an e-locker in the front of my 83?

I'm planning on putting an e-locker in the front of my 83. I'm kinda nervous because I'm not all that good at driving the thing on trails. "Noobness" is probably fairly evident. I put an ez lock in the back(love it btw) and I'm kinda wondering if I'm gonna get in over my head too quickly. Any thoughts? Or what should I do first? I've just got a stock truck with the ez in the back.

There would be nothing wrong with it up front. It's selectable which is the best for up front if your rig is a dd.

Lockers and such are like women. Every man likes something that is different than the next man. However, the trail experience will come with time. If you are worried about messing up your vehicle, then you are on the trail with the wrong vehicle. Going off road will ALWAYS cost you something.

If the truck is a daily driver, you don't want to permanently lock the front. IT will cause severe wear and tear on your drive train and also alter the "streetability" of the vehicle in question.

On another note, Having a selectable locker up front is very handy indeed. You will notice a handling and traction difference when you lock down and dig in. In time you will become comfortable with your vehicle and slowly "tune" yourself to your vehicles capabilities. It just takes time and practice. Do not get out there and try to hot dog it because some of the others are. Just honk and weave to them when you pass them on the other side of the hill. (Then go back and help them! That's part of the fun too!)

I think if your truck is a DD there would be less wear and tear on the tires if you did the selectable in the rear and the ez up front with manual locking hubs .

If you ever plan on driving your truck on snowy roads then a selectable front is a Must! I just took the locker out of my front due to snow driving and tight trails... but the Elocker is my next mod.

Wow are the mods ever picky about titles suddenly! Jeez. I suppose it's good to get the point accross without having to open the thread, but man.

I think how you mod your truck won't get you in over your head on a trail. It's the trails you decide to go on and the lines you take that will get you in over your head. Having lockers in the front & rear will just help out if you do get in a sticky situation or help keep you out of one. I mean it's up to you to pick trails you are comfortable with. I really hardly do any offroading these days...I did a ton in Utah but nothing like rock crawling or anything, I'd just go up the canyon and find a dirt road and see where it went, and sometimes it got a little crazy, but I always made it with my '86 IFS with 31's and open diffs. These days I'd love to have lockers and a winch just because you never know. But they won't make me take on trails that I don't feel comfortable with, just because I have them. They are just good insurance. I can picture what you're saying, though...I can picture some roads in Utah I probably looked at and said "nope, not going that way", that if I had a more capable truck (even though the driver still didn't have the capabilities, yet), I may have tried...

just a question about how much did you pay for your e-locker and did you put it in yourself

thanks guys. I haven't put it in yet, got some other issues I'm working out right now. (any one want an 88 BMW? PM me...) I'm trying to bring all my research together on lockers, and I guess that pretty much does it. My thinking is that in the back the ez locker is basically invisible and that way I won't have to hop out and undo a hub around corners. seems like a pain
