Been lurking here and and over on pirate for a while now, and I finally have a question. I've been searching for a 5 speed to replace the l43 I believe to be in my 80. I found what I believe to be a w56 with top shift transfer case on Craigslist today...post said it came out of a 89 with a 4cyl...from research I was under the impression that they went to forward shift in 89.Im just wanting to double check,here's the pic. Thanks

 

Looks top shift to me.
So you know a W series trans is 4" longer than the L series your truck came stock with and will require that you move the cross member back, lengthen your front drive shaft and shorten the rear?

 

Yep that will be the plan for the future. While I'm at it I will probably go ahead and double the tcase...just want to jump on this now bc it's a good deal.
