New guy, performance and parts
Hi,
New guy here. I have had an 83 since new and first am looking for a good parts source, primarily interior trim bits, but of course other parts. I'm located in southern ontario. Next I've read a lot about performance mods and other than doing something radical or very mild bolt ons every thing else seems to indicated a waste of time. Basically I just want a bit more highway hill climbing power.
The engine is in good shape with 230000km's (just broke in!) chain guides good, no cam rocker wear, good oil and compression pressure, no leaks, etc. Every thing works as good as new or better. It does have leaky valve guide seals. Its the canadian version so no emission stuff/worries. 4:10 gears, 31" BFG muds, Offy dual plane intake, stock carb, flowmaster exhaust.
Thanks

Well...first off, yeah, welcome to Yotatech. Second, if you want highway hill climbing power, either buy a different truck, or swap in a later model 4 cylinder (like from a Tacoma) or V6. Seriously.
To get more interstate hill climbing power out of your current engine, you'll need a rebuilt engine with a somewhat custom exhaust and performance cam. And even then, it's going to be a dog. That's just the way it is.
Regearing to 4.56 will get you the most power, since you've got oversize tires. That's honestly probably the best performance mod you can do for these 4 cylinder trucks, is to have them geared correctly.
Interior trim...you're mostly going to be looking for trucks being parted out; hopefully in better shape than yours. Otherwise, if you don't care about keeping it original, you just need to be creative with later model stuff. The classifieds here and on Marlin Crawler's forum are great places to start.
