my 82 wont idle
Just picked up an 82 4x4 with around 200,200 miles. Supposedly rebuilt about ten thousand miles ago. Truck runs great, but after about 6 or 7 minutes idling from cold start it just cuts of. Doesnt spit, sputter, start missing or anything. It cranks right back, but i have to keep feathering the gas to keep it running. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Also test the...uh...idle/fuel cut solenoid on the carb. That was the issue when mine would cut out. It would come and go...but at times, without keeping my foot on the gas, it would stall. Would always fire right back up, but then stall. Can't remember the exact proceedure...but I think I remember that the common problem is that the ground wire gets screwy. So if you cut the ground, and splice in a new length of wire to the negative battery terminal, that would fix it, IF that's your problem. I'd do some testing before just cutting wires, though. I think if you searched idle cut solenoid or fuel cut solenoid youd find stuff either here, or at marlin or pirate.
Anyway, that's one of the things that could cause the stalling...

sounds like it might be time for a carb rebuild... i had this problem and it drove me crazy for weeks, i was ready to hang myself. bought a rebuild kit at napa for about 80 bucks and had a mechanic piece it back together, and then stuck it back in myself. runs fine now and my mileage is wayyyy better but it was literally one of the most frustrating things ive ever dealt with

Yeah, I had this problem as well, I couldn't figure it out at all. Mine would get really bad when the engine was idling and sitting still but once I drove it it was fine. Then when stopping at a stop sign it would die. Like stated above check the vacuum lines as well as the fuel pump/fuel filter. I just broke down and bought a Weber Carb, then took all the smog stuff off and blocked with pipe plugs. Capped off some vacuum lines and it was night and day difference. I also chose the manual choke option which I love.

Ok...I know the answer to this issue for many of you, I know it worked for me.
Look by the petals on the driver side of the vehicle. There is a brown and green box. Which has a wiring harness on it, prob 1.5 inches long. This is where the issue lies. Try moving is back and forth while warming up, and your truck will stay running instead of dying when at idle. Try bracing the harness with something, just to add tension. I did this and drove my truck for 3 years like that.
The reason I know this trick is from my old man, he showed it to me, he ownes and 81 22r 2wd since 81. We've done plenty of work on the 22r together and he's a carb fanatic. I'm going to try and pry much of that carb info from him and I'll pass it on for sure to everyone. Try
