My 81 4x4

My truck us an 81 model 4x4. 22R with a 4 speed. I was back in my hometown visiting my folks and went to pick up a pizza and saw it sitting out by the road with a for sale sign on it. Called the number and it was literally a little old lady selling it. I asked her the price, she said $2400 but I'll take $2100 and not a penny less and hung up on me, haha! I called her back and said the phone must have disconnected us and told her I thought it was a fair price and asked if I could come speak with her about it. She apologized for hanging up, said she must have got a hundred calls that day and everyone was wanting to buy it for $500.

Turns out, her husband had bought it new back in 81. I would have liked to speak with him about it because he took great care of it. Sadly, he had passed away roughly 10 years prior and she just let it set in the garage. He kept the window sticker and the owners manual and all repair receipts in the glove box. It was pretty neat looking through the receipts and seeing what little items cost so many years ago.

Anyways, I picked up the little truck for $2100! It had 82k miles on it and runs like a top. I've had it a couple of years and it's almost got 84k on it now, haha! Anyways, I'll attach some pictures to let you guys see it. Hope you enjoy them!

BTW, repairs include fixing the turn signal switch, putting a new timing chain in it (wasn't sure it needed it, but did it for peace of mind), new water pump and oil pump with the t-chain, new tires, new shocks, new steering damper, fixed the horn contact with a 22 casing. Just little odds and ends. Bought some fenders from Toyo Fiberglass, great stuff! Hope to be able to purchase a bed when funds permit. Haven't mounted up the fenders yet, but hope to when warm weather comes.

I plan to keep it a very long time! I'm only 5 years older than the truck, but my dog and I look too cool rolling down the road in it! I'd like to fix it up and make it decent looking again. It's a 20 footer at best. Front fenders have rot along the bottoms, and the seams on the bed are starting to get out of control.

Super sweet truck. Make a build thread if you start to fix it up.

you got a great deal. The early trucks (81 & earlier) it is hard to tell the actual mileage on the odometer since it is only 5 digits but looking at how clean yours in I think it is the actual mileage. Plus with it being a one owner. I am glad the lady stuck to her guys and sold it for what she did and not to someone that was going the wheeler route..

Your truck should have the L45 4 speed. If you can find an L series 5 speed it would be direct bolt in.
