Muffler Options

I have the 20R in my 1980 and I was wondering what muffler is a good match for the motor?

What kind of muffler are you all running?

I don't know what kind mine is, it's too rusty to see any kind of marking. All I know is that it makes my truck sound exactly like the 20R-powered Toyota forklifts I've driven, and that makes me want to convert it to propane.

Yeah the one that came with the truck was round and held in place with a wire. So my buddy welded on a muffler from an XJ he had layin around. Does ok but was wondering if there's a good performance one for it.

What is the max pipe diameter I can run?

I have a pace setter header, 2.5" exhaust off the collector and a Flowmaster 50 mounted after the rear axle. somewhat quiet and lumpy (that's partly because of my 283 cam) but bearable at cruising speeds but she barks when you get on it!

I have a custom 2.25" setup (done by muffler shop) from the exhaust manifold back. I still use a cat and a Walker Dynomax muffler. Sounds good, reasonably quiet, makes reasonable power for a 96hp motor rolling 34's or 35's.

what magnaflow muffler did you use? Size or ... part number would be the best.

Nope...not loud at all....just a nice low mellow tone...it opens up nicely at about 2500 RPMs, but still not "loud".

what i did was take the smallest glasspack i could get and mount it behind a magnaflow muffler, makes it really quiet and still sounds good. i think it's like 1 3/4 tube to the tip after the muffler.

well while we r all throwing in our exhaust setups. on my 82 i have pacesetter headers to high flow cat. then a cherry bomb glasspack to my custom sidepipe i made. all 2 1/8 piping. it rumbles real good at idle and that 22r gets loud at high rpms it turns a few heads. i love it

i give my friend soo much crap bucuase my 22r is louder then his dodge 302 magnum v8 with a glasspack on it

great setup highly recomend it, and i spent 350 on all of it which includes(headers, cat, glasspack, piping and the tip) all done myself

I spent a total of $40 on my exhaust from the cat back, since when I bought it it already had a LONG header on it (the collector flange is BEHIND the transmission cross member.) got a $25 thrush welded muffler which is an exact copy of a flowmaster 40, a section of new 2 1/4" exhaust tube and a couple different prefabbed bends and a turn down.
