Max tire size 4 a 83 yota pu

Hey what's the biggest tires I can run on a stock 1982 toyota pickup, single cab? Flat deck. I have 31s in it right now but when would I start needing a lift?

31's are your best bet for a completely stock pickup. The engine and gears can adequately pull 31's through all gears and the suspension is plenty high enough. When you hop up to 33's you'll start to get some tire rub issues and your engine will start to get pissed off at you - most stock engines will struggle pulling 5th gear with 33's (if it can even pull 5th at all). Ideally, when going to 33+ tires you'll also need to be looking at a lift to ensure plenty of clearance and you'll also need to look into regearing and/or some engine mods so you have the power to turn the larger tires.

Amazing how one tire size affects power. I went from stock 225/75/15 to 235/75/15 cause the 225's were getting hard to find but going up those long hills now I usually have to get down into 4th for most of the ride but almost never with the 225's. Ride is slightly nicer with the 235's so can live with the trade off.

SORRY 83, Glad I checked in this morn, corrected my mistake in above reply, I often screw that up think cause of my wagon , my bad. 225 will show exactly 1 mile on the odometer over measured 1 mile at least with my truck but the 235's will show a slightly shorter mile on the odometer.

Not exact science but if your town/city started off as farm land like mine there might be grids of 1 sq mile (640 acres). The larger main streets tend to be at the 1 mile borders and smaller trafficed streets at the 1/4 mile for the 160 acre farm plots.

Yeah I just remember getting kinda familiar with it, because I really liked 30x9.50s. Good mix of filling in the wheel wells, without feeling like you need to re-gear.

In my opinion, they just make a truck look like a truck, made for off road and on road. Once you start getting to 31 and higher, it starts looking more like a strictly off road vehicle, and depending on how you use your truck...kinda like you're trying to prove something.

I'll admit 31s fill out the Toyota wheel wells perfectly, though. All depends on what you want. I used to love 31s. Then my tastes changed, and I found how much better my truck drove with 30s.

All that is just to say that I think I learned that 30x9.50 is equivalent to 235 75 r15, so I remember that 235 was bigger than stock.

31x9.5? Cool. Seems to be an unusual tire size, but I remember seeing them on a first gen before and thinking they looked really good. Nice.

I had those too. I wanted them all in black so I took some sort of solvent (cement cleaner?) and put it on a rag and they rubbed right off.

17-inch wheels, BFG All Terrains, 3-inch lift. No issues at highway speeds. Would like to run BFG KM3 37’s but would need to regear
