Now that winter is getting closer, it would be great to have a shell on my truck, but it is proving hard to find. I could get a new one for $1050, but I am more in the buget of a used one. Does anyone know of one for sell? I checked out ebay. It is a longbed. I bet any pre'89 toyota longbed shell will work.

 

Craigslist and the local paper. Even the junkyard. I think you're probably right as far as the year range, but I'll bet anything before the '05 Tacoma would fit well enough, if they ever actually made longbed Tacomas...not sure. I switched a shell from a '86 to a '93 and it fit the same. Craigslist has worked the best for me so far, although I haven't actually found one yet...they're either just a bit too far away, longbed (mines a shortbed), or sell before I get to them. They are a lot out there though, at least around here.

I've heard there are some aluminum topper makers with a starting price of only around $500 or so, too.

Get a thermoplastic shell, like a Bronco or Brahma. The fiberglass ones are really heavy, and the aluminum ones don't hold up over time.
